Overview of the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul

Only a short walk from Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace, the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul is the best-situated of all Istanbul's leading hotels. It occupies a nicely renovated, early 20th century Ottoman prison; which once held suspected criminals, such as writers, artists and "dangerous thinkers".

The demure 65-room hotel, the smallest in the Four Seasons chain, confounds arrivals anticipating grandeur. The Valets, Doormen, Porter and Reception Staff, are all slim and sleekly garbed; making a noteworthy first impression.

The turreted facade, faience tiles and marble columns reflect both medieval and Ottoman inspiration. Candlesticks mark the arched, marble-paved lobby and reception. Continental furnishings, modern and impressionist art, and futuristic lighting provide subtle reminders of Suleiman's reign.

The central courtyard boasts a tile and stone fountain; and the alfresco dining experience offers a pleasant respite from city's hustle and bustle.

Hospitality

"Seasons", the atrium-style restaurant, serves international specialties; including Turkish and vegetarian dishes. Imported refreshments are available in the beautiful bar and adjacent terrace.

The sitting area, library and opulent blue salon, provide plush surroundings with Turkish ambience. The three meeting rooms fill up with just 45 people; but the ornate ballroom holds 150 more. Valets park cars, and the Concierge of Istanbul can arrange airport transfers to / from the Four Seasons Istanbul. High-speed cable and wireless Internet access are costly; however Wi-Fi is free in the lobby area.

Accomodations

The spacious guest rooms feature:

Standard appurtenances are good lighting, dual-line phones with data ports and voice mail, TVs with DVD players, CD players, minibars and safes. The lovely baths have deep tubs, stall showers ringed with ornate mosaics, vanities wrought from antique-style highboys, marble counters, gilt framed mirrors and Oriental rugs rest atop marble floors.

Standard and superior rooms are large, but the vast deluxe rooms on the third and fourth floors are as large as a suite. The 11 one and two bedroom suites, many with living areas downstairs and bedrooms above, feature lovely Ottoman-inspired decor. Guests are surprised by new treats such as fresh fruit or pastries, each time they return to their rooms. Personalized stationery provides a nice touch, as well.
